Junior Sculling Regatta

Our J14 2x of Will and George won their first national medal, a bronze. Always exciting to see our youngest at the start if their rowing career, bringing home the metal!

Wallingford Regatta

Thanks to all competitors who came to our regatta at the weekend. It was another successful one, running pretty much to time and with some fabulous racing despite a tricky crosswind.

As usual this event could not run without the many volunteers from the club – members, parents and family. From stakeboat juniors to seasoned commentators, bank marshals to trophy polishers – a fabulous effort.

Junior Inter Regional Regatta

Our Juniors came home with a full set of medals from the Junior Inter Regional Regatta this weekend. Racing for Thames Upriver in a composite with the wonderful Sir William Perkins girls, the WJ16 8+ produced a steely, mature performance to beat the winners of the Schools Head by a length, rowing through them at half way.

Our WJ15s won their first ever championship medal, a silver, and there was bronze for our WJ16 2-.

Abingdon Head

Thanks to Abingdon RC who gave us the opportunity to mix and match our youngest crews this weekend at Abingdon Head. We loved the idea of Mixed J14 4x+ and were very pleased to win that event along with four others – J16 and J15 2x and both boys and girls 4+. A great day out for all involved.

Schools Head

We entered an unprecedented six 8s and a quad! A strong set of results all round, including two 3rds, a 4th and a 5th, and this silver medal from our WJ15s. Always good to win something at this race, and a reflection of our Junior strength in depth. Our girls are pictured, framed by Paris Olympic medallists Lola Anderson and Freddie Davidson.

Vesta Masters Head

Our WMas F crew once again dominated their category in this race, and were not far off winning the fastest women’s crew title. Our two men’s crews, one at C and one at F, also did well, coming 5th and 12th.

Kingston Head

As preparation for the Schools Head our WJ18 8+ beat the field at Saturday’s Kingston Head, winning by a margin of about 30 seconds. Tough conditions too, with a nasty headwind and choppy water. Ideal preparation for the Tideway!

Avon Head

Our youngest members were thrilled to win their first ever medals this weekend. Both J14 boys and girls won their coxed quad events over the short course (1500 metres) making the 2 hour trip totally worthwhile! We also saw wins over the same distance for our J15 boys and girls in coxed fours. Well raced everyone.

Head of the Trent

Our Masters F women won the 8s event in style, winning not only the overall pennant on adjusted time, but on raw time as well, beating crews several age categories (C, D, E) below them in the process. They then jumped into a 4x, winning the F event, and a 4+ where unfortunately they had no opposition.

A great day out in Nottingham, with sunny skies. Thanks to Keith, our Director of Rowing, for organising and towing.

Wycliffe wins

Our girls and boys put on a storming performance at Wycliffe Big Head to win both WJ18 and J16 8s. This was the first race in an 8 for these boys since last summer so it was pleasing to win by 17 seconds despite having to stop twice at narrow bridges. Meanwhile our senior men spent a fantastic weekend at Peterborough on a training camp, with thanks to very friendly Peterborough RC hosts.
