Learn to Row – Adults (18 years and over)
Our objective is to teach total beginners the basics of rowing and sculling. You’ll be going out in a variety of boats, including eights (like you see Oxford and Cambridge racing in on the telly-box) as well as quads, doubles, and for those of you up for it, the supremely wobbly single sculling boat where the boat teaches you all you need to know.
If you’d like to learn how to cox then learning to row is the best way to understand how the boat moves and what the crew is doing. Let us know when you sign up.
All sessions are held on the water subject to weather conditions. You need to be able to swim 50m in rowing clothing in case you do go for a dip in the river. There is no upper age limit as long as you are suitably fit and healthy. Groups are mixed ladies and gentlemen. There are no refunds or replacements for sessions that you cannot attend.
Course Dates
Our last course this year is being held in September.
It runs over 4 weekends starting Saturday 6th. Sessions are Saturday and Sunday mornings 10am to 12 midday. There is no session on Saturday 27th due to a club event. Final session is October 4th.
Its ok if you miss one, two or even three sessions – most people don’t make them all.
Next year’s courses will start in early May 2026 and will be Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10-12 and a midweek evening around 6pm for 8 sessions. There will likely be courses in May, June, July, August and September, subject to sufficient demand and availability of coaches.
