Wallingford had five crews entered for the premier women’s event of the rowing calendar and it was a weekend of near misses with three crews reaching finals, but unfortunately no wins. Racing on Saturday began with an unbelievably close finish for the Junior double – in tough conditions the girls fought back against a leading crew, closing the gap only to lose by a six inch margin. The four senior crews – a Senior 4x, Elite 2x, Elite Lwt 2- and Senior Lwt 2x – all put in strong performances to reach their semi-finals on Sunday.

On Sunday there was a repeat of previous success for all crews apart from the Elite Lwt 2- who went out in the semi-finals to the eventual winners, Durham. The Senior 4x had a close race coming back against Latymer Upper to win by 2/3 of a length. In the finals all three remaining crews – the Senior 4x, Elite 2x and Senior Lwt 2x – all raced well, but suffered against stronger crews in tough headwind conditions.
